Executive Board

Our leadership for 2019

Picture

Jon Hamilton - President

Jon is a senior studying Environmental Science and Public Policy. He was born and raised in southeastern Massachusetts where he got to experience, and learned to love, every season. Growing up, he also loved exploring nature through all sorts of activities, including hiking, canoeing, and camping. His co-essence would most certainly be a tree, although his spirit animal is a golden retriever. Apart from environmental science and conservation, he has interests in orienting first-years as a FOP leader and playing sports like ice hockey and soccer.

Marissa Garcia - Chief Operating Officer

Marissa is a junior concentrating in Integrative Biology with a secondary in Earth & Planetary Sciences. She serves as both the Chief Operating Officer and a Project Leader for the collaboration with the New England Aquarium. She previously served as Event Coordinator and has been a member of the CI Suriname and Nature Conservancy projects. She considers conservation to be the pulse behind her research in marine bioacoustics, wherein she studies the vocalizations of the North Atlantic Right Whale, which currently has a population fewer than 411. She strives to use the soundscapes of the sea to better inform environmental and marine policy in support of conservation. She strongly believes the roles of scientist and communicator can no longer be separate and therefore also dedicates her time to being an editor for the Harvard Independent and Editor-in-Chief for Tuesday Magazine. In her spare time, you can catch her coffeehouse hopping.

In his free time, he loves to backpack and hike, fly fish, ski, play tennis and soccer.

Sophie Pesek - Marketing Director

Sophie is a senior studying Environmental Science and Engineering. She grew up in Cambridge before being sent off to boarding school in New Hampshire, where she only survived by spending all of her time in the woods. She often returns to NH to lead Outing Club trips, and is otherwise involved with Engineers Without Borders, Y2Y and Running Club. When she’s not in class or walking to and from Pfoho, she loves to spend time sailing, skiing, and reading books about conservation.
